Questioning centre’s stand in the Parliament that nobody is under house arrest in Union Territory (UT) of Jammu and Kashmir, former union minister and senior Congress leader Prof Saifuddin Soz on Friday said he remained in his house due to restrictions since August 5, 2019.
Who is misleading whom, he asked and said is it that Home minister mislead Parliament or civil servants misled minister to make a wrong statement, Prof Soz said in a statement this afternoon.
He said the home minister Amit Shah tabled information in the Parliament recently that nobody was under house arrest in J&K UT.
The fact is that I have been under house arrest since August 5, 2019, the day when Article 370 of the Constitution of India was abrogated, he said.
There are many more leaders from the mainstream Kashmir, who have been under house arrest since then, Prof Soz said.
He said “during all this period, I visited Delhi for two days for medical advice. I had visited my ailing sister in Srinagar twice with permission of the J&K Police, who took me from my residence in their vehicle with the escort and got me back to my residence”. That I am a free man, is a white lie, the Congress leader said.
He alleged that it shows the present day dispensation at the Centre has no respect for the Constitution of India, which enshrines the provision for protection of Civil Liberties in India.
T” he most tragic aspect of the incarceration of political class in Kashmir is that the police personnel at the lowest rung have only to follow verbal instructions of the bosses, all the time! The word of mouth ‘reigns the roost’.”
